Marvel’s Weapon Plus and Brute Force
.
We already discussed Marvel’s upcoming one-shot Weapon Plus World War IV released on January 30, 2020. While this book features the first appearance of a new Man-Thing character (Man-Slaughter) it also reintroduces a classic underutilized Marvel team, Brute Force.

.
Weapon Plus World War IV features two stories one featuring “Man-Slaughter” and one reintroducing the cybernetically empowered animal warriors of Brute Force. Brute Force first appeared in a four part mini-series of the same name and Marvel has recently retconed the team as “Weapon II”, part of the Weapon Plus program. The Brute Force team features Hip Hop – a Kangaroo, Lionheart – a Lion, Soar – An American Bald Eagle, Surfstreak / Doctor Echo – a Dolphin, and Wreckless the bear. The team appears in one page of the released preview of the upcoming Weapon Plus World War IV preview, seen below.

This team has only made a handful of appearances in the Marvel Universe. First in the four part mini-series – with a first issue that has been trending up in recent months. This could be a result of the Comic Book Fiend Club making it one of their chapter books or it could be a result of people noticing a cool cheesy comic book that features a dolphin with fin-mounted rocket launchers. Either way, it seems that Marvel is very keen on bringing this team back into their comic book universe so now is a great time to be picking up the characters first appearance in Brute Force #1 – a book that can be regularly found in bargain comic book bins.

.
One very undervalued appearance of this team is in the Deadpool Volume 3 Bi-Annual #1 published in 2014. This is the first appearance of Brute Force in the comic universe since their 1990 mini-series – the characters are also featured prominently on this books cover.

What do you think? Do you think Marvel will even do justice for this new team? Will the dolphin have a cell phone or will he still have to make collect calls? Let me know in the comments or on social media!
