New Character Alert: DOOMSDAY CLOCK #12 (SPOILERS)

.
This week sees the release of the very delayed last issue of Doomsday Clock – The DC Universe / Watchmen Cross-Over event by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank – and inside the pages of this book we are introduced to a real game changer of a character.

.

Doomsday Clock #12 features the first meeting of Dr. Manhattan and Superman and without giving away too many spoilers – the DC Universe Timeline and the Watchmen Timeline become interconnected and at the end of the book we are introduced to a brand new Dr. Manhattan inspired character.

Some have suggested that this book is supposed to lay the ground works for the all new DC “5G Universe” and it seems very likely that this new Superman / Dr. Manhattan Hybrid character is going to be a real game changer within the DC Comic Universe.

.
This has been a strange week for the Dr. Manhattan character – first with the events of the HBO Watchmen finale and now with an all new Dr. Manhattan / Superman character has joined the DC Universe. What do you think? Is this just more flash in the pan speculation? Let me know in the comments or on social media.

Still processing all of this. It seems as though DC admit that Dr Manhattan is simply too overpowered, an actual Deus Ex Machina, and what they have dome here is potentially tempered his power set (in the comic and also interestingly in the recently wrapped TV show). This tempering should make him an interesting addition in the future, and we may see more of the Watchmen universe in the future (which is exciting to think about). It will be interesting to see if the DC avatar and inspiration of Manhattan (Captain Atom) will ever come back, and will he also have a restricted power set? I did enjoy this series and will be purchasing the deluxe hard copy when available.
