Week in Review: July 31

Welcome to the Week in Review – where we look at the books being released every week and highlight which ones have potential to heat up online.

This week is a Wednesday warrior’s wet dream with numerous comics getting attention online. The first one is Canto #2, which has started to sell just above cover price. The first printing of this book (released this week) has sold out at the distribution level and IDW has already solicited a second printing. This book has a 1 in 10 variant cover that has been selling for $25 to $30.

Another IDW title that comes out this week that started selling well online last week is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #96. This is assumed to feature the first full appearance of Jennika as the new yellow turtle. TMNT #96 has two regular covers and a 1 in 10 variant – the regular cover has been selling for $10 to $13 while the 1 in 10 variant has been averaging $50 to $60. Kevin Eastman, co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, told comicbook.com that Jennika’s transformation has been something the Turtles team has been working on for three years – suggesting the character will be sticking around in the turtle universe.

This week sees the release of Gutt Ghost: Till We Meet Again #1 (one-shot) from Scout Comics. Gutt Ghost was first published in a one-shot mini-comic by creator Enzo Garza, the first mini-comic was published in June of 2016 and went into various printings. Gutt Ghost eventually appeared in Heavy Metal Magazine issue 288. The new Scout Comics one-shot had an 9-page black and white preview ashcan – Enzo is selling the remaining copies of the ashcan on his website (right now he only has “rare skull variant” ashcans available). There is also a Scout Comics website exclusive “skull variant”. The Scout Comics issue has five sales at $10.

One Last book that I want to talk about this week is Knights Temporal #1 from Aftershock Comics. Typically when a first issue from Aftershock Comics gets hot it doesn’t sustain value, with that being said, this book has been selling for $6 to $10 online and seems to be trending up.
