Easter Comic Spotlight: THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF THE FUNNY BUNNY

.
With Easter coming up I thought it would be a great time to look at one of the goofiest characters in the Marvel Universe – The Funny Bunny. This oddball character only had one comic book appearance – appearing in a six page story titled ‘Spidey Fights the Funny Bunny!’ published in 1975’s  Spidey Super Stories #9. This story is adapted from the sixth episode of the NBC Electric Company TV series.

Who is the Funny Bunny?

.

Funny Bunny was a girl who one Easter had her Easter Basket destroyed and ever since she “turned to a life of crime…stealing from kids Easter baskets” while dressed as the Easter Bunny. The story ends with the first female president having an Easter egg hunt on the white house lawn where Spider-Man catches Funny Bunny in a very Hannah Barbara Scooby Doo fashion. You can read the full six page story from Spidey Super Stories #9 below.

That’s the first appearance of The Funny Bunny, Marvel’s most oddball Easter character, appearing in Spidey Super Stories #9. The Spidey Super Stories run has some great stories in it including the first time a female puts on the Spider-Man outfit (Spidey Super Stories #11) – When I find reasonably priced copies I always think they’re worth picking up.
