Borderlands is a third person shooter game based in a “space western science fantasy setting“. This game was created by Gearbox games and debuted in 2009 spawning three sequels and numerous downloadable expansion content. Last summer it was announced by Gearbox that Lionsgate Film had acquired the rights to adapt the Borderlands franchise to the big screen. Earlier this week news broke that Eli Roth, known for directing Cabin Fever and Hostel, would be directing the Borderlands project. This movie news has sparked and revitalized interest in the Borderlands comic books.

Borderlands joined the comic book universe in 2012 when IDW published the first issue of the four issue Borderlands Origins mini-series. This series follows the main characters of Borderlands, Roland, Mordecai, Lilith and Brick and answered the question “how did the Vault Hunters get on the bus with Marcus?” Each issue of this series has a one in ten ratio variant cover.

Over the last few days the first issue of the Borderlands Origins series has jumped up from selling for $5 to over $40! This is a great book to be looking for! While there is a very hard to find one in ten ratio variant cover by Ray Dillon for Borderlands Origins #1 there is also a very in demand Gamestop variant cover – which was only available through mail-order and has been selling for $50 to $60!

It looks like this Borderlands film is really happening which makes it a great time to start looking for the first issue of the Borderlands Origins comic book series! This book has four printings and they’re all selling above cover price!
