Comic Oddball Spotlight: The Toxic Avenger #9 – The “Special Stupid Fresh Rap Issue!”
.
The Toxic Avenger is a cult science fiction film from 1984 about a man in New Jersey who falls into a barrel of toxic waste and becomes a mutated monster. This film spawned several sequels. The Toxic Avenger was first introduced in the comic universe in 1991 in the pages of Amazing Heroes Swimsuit Special #2 published by Fantagraphics. It was four months later that Marvel introduced the Toxic Avengers into the Marvel Universe in his own Toxic Avenger series – which ran for 11 issues. The Marvel series was very interesting and had some really covers including three different photo covers. My favorite issue from the run, and the issue I want to spotlight, is The Toxic Avenger #9 – also known as “The Special Stupid Fresh Rap issue!“.

This book tells the story of the Toxic Avenger getting abducted by aliens only to fight his way back to Earth. The main reason I like this issue is because the entire dialogue and text is told as one long rap song, each line rhyming with the next.
.
..
The entire issue is narrated from the perspective of the Toxic Avenger while he performs at some kind of rap concert – where he refers to himself as a new alterego Toxie V.G.

While this book has no real monetary value, this is a very fun issue published by Marvel Comics. I believe that this book is well worth the $3 buy in price just for its very eccentric content.
