Week in Review: February 5, 2020
.
Hello and welcome to the week in review on Comicbookspeculation.com – home of the original week in review – where we go over all of the hot books being released to comic book stores this week. Here are just some books that come out this week that I think are interesting.
.
On track for the book of the week – and maybe even the book of the year (so far) is the new Oni Press comic book Aggretsuko #1. We wrote about this book a few days ago. Aggretsuko is a popular Netflix Anime series currently in its third season and this comic book is the first comic book adaptation of the series. This book has two covers – both of which have sold out at the distribution level and are selling very well on the secondary market for $20+. Sets

This week sees the release of the second print of the first issue of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cross-over series. We spoke about this issue when it was first solicited a few weeks ago when Boom Studios announced a one in ten ratio variant for this second printing – the first time this publisher has offered ratio variants for a later printing. As expected – the one in ten ratio variant has been selling very well online in presales. Multiple copies have sold for between $70 and $75. The are two regular second print covers and the Helmet variant cover B has been selling above its $3.99 cover price – selling for around $5 to $8. There is also a one-per store “Thank You” Variant for this second print issue #1.

.
Tart #1 is the first issue from Scout Comics “Nonstop” imprint – where they publisher a #1 issue and a few months later publish a trade paperback with the entire series. I think this is just a way for Scout to play the speculator game without having to hold onto dead stock. It seems like Scout thinks some modern comic collectors only care about first issues and Scout has decided to cater to them. This book has a few sales online for $9.99 – more than two times its $3.99 cover price. I don’t think these Nonstop imprint books have any long term potential but only time will tell.
.
.
One Marvel Book to keep an eye out for this week is the one in one-hundred ratio variant cover for Conan Battle for the Serpent Crown #1. Following the Conan high ratio variant trend – this cover, featuring artwork by John Buscema, has been selling for $140 to $180. There is also a one in twenty five ratio variant cover by Tony Daniel that has been selling above its ratio.

One last book that comes out this week that has one or two sales above its cover price is Project Icarus #1 from Blackbox Comics. Blackbox Comics has released other book thats were popular upon release but interest soon died off. I would expect the same thing to happen with this title.
.
That is your week in review! Let me know in the comments (or on social media) if I missed any books you think are spec worthy.
