This week sees the release of Aggretsuko #1 from Oni Press Comics and it is already on track to be the book of the week. Aggretsuko is a Japanese anime series that was brought to the English speaking market through the Netflix streaming platform. Netflix is currently in production of the anime’s third season. While I havn’t heard of this series or franchise, it is very popular within the anime community –  holding a score of 100% on the Rotten Tomatoes website.

The original diamond solicitation for this issue gives the series synopsis that it “stars Retsuko the Red Panda, a young office worker stuck in a thankless job, whose only stress release is singing heavy metal at the local karaoke joint. With the help of her friends, can she ever find the job satisfaction she craves”. The first issue of the Oni Press series has already sold out at the distribution level and copies have started to trend up on various online sale markets.

Aggretsuko #1 has two covers and has multiple sales online ranging from $10 to $20 with the most recent sales averaging $19.99. This book is released this week on February 5 and while I don’t think it will see the success of Oni Press’s Rick and Morty series I do think this is a great book to try to secure copies of.
