Deadline ran a very peculiar “exclusive” article earlier today indicating that the Justice League Dark Universe was in development by Bad Robot – the production company founded by J.J. Abrams. From the article, “EXCLUSIVE: I hear that Bad Robot, through its new deal at Warner Media, is exclusively developing both film and TV ideas based on DC’s Justice League Dark universe at Warner Brothers.”

Many websites and comic book fans are translating this one sentence to mean that there is a Justice League Dark movie or TV-show in development. I don’t necessarily think it was made clear in that Deadline article if this is a legitimate story or just a faceless rumor, however, I do think over the next few days and weeks we’re going to see a lot of people looking for Justice League Dark books.

The Justice League Dark is an alternate Justice League team that first appeared in the New 52’s Justice League Dark #1 from 2011. The Team consists of Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade the Changing Man and Zatanna. John Constantine joined the team in Justice League Dark #9. Both the first and second printing of Justice League Dark #1 sell well online.

Three other books that should start to sell again are books that feature the first appearance of the Justice League Dark team characters together. While this team is never called “The Justice League Dark” in any comic aside from the title of the 2011 series – most of the team characters first appear together in the Alan Moore Swamp Thing storyline. Three books that have arguably the first appearance of this team are Volume 2 –  Swamp Thing Annual #2, Swamp Thing #49 and Swamp Thing #50.

While this news comes from what is usually regarded as a reliable source, it is presented as a rumor which makes me doubt if we will ever see anything happening with this property in the near future. Either way I still think we will be seeing this books grow in interest over the next few weeks and months and I wait confirmation on this news.
