Hollywood Daze: Hildafolk
.
Hilda is an animated series on Netflix. The first season features eight episodes and was released in 2018. Hilda is a Children’s TV-Show “Fearless, free-spirited Hilda finds new friends, adventures and magical creatures when she leaves her enchanted forest home and journeys to the city.” It should also be mentioned that this series won a daytime Emmy for outstanding main title and graphic design for an Animated Program – which while it sounds like a made up award, is very much real.

So why should you care?

Hilda is based on the 2010 British Graphic Novel “Hildafolk” published by Nobrow Press. This is worth mentioning because late last year Netflix announced that they were producing a second season as well as a 70 minute special, both to be released at some point in 2020. It was recently announced that the world premier of the second season will happen at a comic convention in late February. The Hildafolk or Hilda Book series spawned six books – and Flying Eye Books re-released Hildafolk in 2014 as Hilda and the Troll. The Hilda line is written and drawn by Luke Pearson – who is best known for his storyboard work on the fifth and seventh seasons of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time.

The Hildafolk version of this book has three printings – the second and third printings are indicated on the outside backcover. There are currently no copies listed online designed as the first printing.

I think this is a great book to start looking for before the release of the second season at some point this year. With a second season and a 70 minute special – Netflix is obviously trying to build a franchise with these novels – giving the book great long term potential.
