Week in Review: January 8, 2020

.

Hello and welcome to the week in review on Comicbookspeculation.com – home of the original week in review – where we go over all of the hot books being released to comic book stores this week. Here are just some books that come out this week that I think are interesting.

.

The big book of this week seems to be the second issue of Star Wars Rise of Kylo Ren. The first issue of this series was a surprise success, selling out on week of release with the cover A selling for as much as $20 and the 1 in 10 ratio variant selling for as much as $30. The first issue also has a 1 in 25 variant as well as an action figure variant – all of the covers of the first issue are selling very well online and the second issue seems to be following the same trend. The second issue has one regular cover and one ratio variant – the regular cover has several sales online at $10 as well as one or two sales of the one in twenty-five ratio variant at $40. This second issue is going to have a much lower print run than the first issue so that should help it hold its value long term.

Following the Boom Comics trend of second and third printings that sell well on release but almost never hold their value – this week sees the release of the second printing of Red Mother #1 – a book that sold out before the release of the first print. In presale this book has been selling for as much as $12.

Another Boom Studios title that comes out this week is Power Rangers Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2. Like with the first issue – Boom is sending any retailer that ordered copies of this book a one per store “Thank You” Variant. I’m interested to see how this book performs on the secondary market once its released.

.
One last book that I want to talk about is Clock #1. This book is published by Image Comic’s imprint Top Cow Comics and it is written by Matt Hawkins. While this title is a mini-series, the first issue has sold out at the distribution level and copies have sold for just above cover price online. Matt Hawkins is best known for his creator owned series Postal and Think Tank.

  • Kylo Ren grew on me as the new SW movies went along. By ‘Rise’ he was the star of the series, IMO (not Rey). Wasn’t thrilled that they killed off the ENTIRE ACTUAL Skywalker bloodline (Hey Rey…you’re NOT a Skywalker!) I’m snatching up everything Kylo related. Also, I been snatching up copies of Darth Vader #3 (1st Dr Aphra), very intriguing character!
