Journey into Comic Oddities with Brian Beck: Modern Good Girl Art Books
.
Most people can really appreciate when a talented artist can create an amazingly beautiful image of the feminine form, and the industry is littered with these kinds of books, many that get collectible for their covers alone. Here is a short list of some tougher to find modern good girl art covers. I haven’t listed any series/companies where the entire thing is basically sexy covers, nor have I listed any store exclusives, as I personally feel it’s too soon to judge a long term market on the majority of them.
.
A1 Weirding Willows #1 – An early Artgerm cover published in 2013 by Titan comics. This book is very hard to find and usually expensive. There is also a graphic novel with the same cover, so make sure to buy the comic book if you want the highest value book.
Ame-Comi Girls #1 – The 1:25 Wonder Woman variant for the first series of this book features absolutely amazing artwork by Dustin Nguyen, and keeps increasing in value. This book keeps getting harder and harder to find.
.
.
Betty and Veronica #251 – This book is a low print Dan Parent cover. There are apparently two covers; one with the snow boots, and another with “tighter boot-style”, that was recalled early for being a little too sexy. I’ve only seen the snow boot one, so the other may be an urban legend.
.
.
Cliffhanger #12 – This is an early J Scott Campbell variant. This is an Italian variant, but there are reprints with the same Image. The Italian one is tough to find, especially in higher grade.
.
.
Cynder #1 – The Adam Hughes variant for this 1996 comic book published by “Immortelle” can be very hard to find, and is a nice early incarnation by one of the modern good girl art masters.
.
.
DNAgents #24 – This issue is the last issue of this series, by legend Dave Stevens and continues to climb in value and demand. This book can still be found in some dollar bins.
.
.
Marville #5 – A Greg Horn Mary Jane cover that was so sexy it was recalled by Marvel. The writing in this series sucks, but the Greg Horn covers are some of my fave modern covers.
.
.
New Mutant #15 – Published in 2010 – The 1:20 Art Adams Majik variant is a hard book to find. Adams does cheese-cakey females great, and has lots of good GGA covers.
.
.
Saved By The Bell #3 – Kelly Kapowski, Jessie Spano, and Lisa Turtle all in bikinis?!?! My 13 year old self just exploded. This is a tough book to find with prices from $15 and up.
.
.
Tales From The Crypt #11 – A very low print reboot of the original series from Papercutz comics. I love the cartoony beach bikini babe on the being menaced by tentacles. When I see these, they are usually beat up, or high priced.
