Journey into Comic Oddities with Brian Beck
.
Hey Guys! I’m Brian Beck, a Canadian comic book seller who has extensive knowledge with finding undervalued comics and selling obscure books no one else is looking for! I mainly sell on ebay and facebook marketplace. Here are just a few books I have been picking up for some time now that I think are cool and undervalued!
.
Battle Beasts #1-4 – I like the first series by Blackthorne Comics, and I always liked the idea of these toys as a kid. Issue #2 seems to be the hardest in the series to find, with people asking $75+ for a set of 4.
.
.
Beasts of Burden #1 – This is a super low print indy series published by Dark Horse Comics. The first issue of the first series have $50+ asking prices online.
.
.
The Before Watchmen Combo Variants – DC offered these combo variants (polibagged editions with special digital codes) for a short time. The cover prices on the combo-pack variants were one dollar more than the regular editions. The print runs on them are miniscule, especially as they get towards the later issues. I picked the Before Watchmen books, because the HBO show was so awesome, but it should be noted that the Batman/Superman combo variants are likely the lowest printed.
.
.
Breaking Bad #0 – This is a comic book based on the hit TV show. There were only 500 copies of this book printed. These can can still be found in quantity between $25-50. Graded copies are priced super high, especially signature series versions. These are gonna be real hard to find once the ebay seller with quantity sells out.
.
.
Cory Docktorow’s Futuristic Tales #4 – This is the lesser known Locke and Key preview issue. With Doctor Who Classics #2 blowing up, this could be the next book in line.
.
.
GI Combat #274 -This book features first appearance of The Monitor. Also, not an easy book to find in higher grade.
.
.
Gwar Orgasmageddon #1 – Kickstarter wraparound variant. 86 of these were bands signed and sent to kickstarter backers. There are only 14 unsigned copies in existence making the unsigned edition the lowest print variant of this title.
.
.
Iron Man DJI #1 – This was Custom Marvel variant from DJI drones. This is also the an early published work by Donny Cates.
.
.
Spider-Man Unlimited #8 – While Joe Hill (Creator of Locke and Key) is heating things up over at DC it’s worth noting that Spider-Man Unlimited #8 from 2004 is his first major Comic book story.
.
.
Thrasher Comics – this old comic books series produced by Thrasher skateboarding magazine are really hard to find and they usually sell for over $20 an issue and are sought after by skateboard and comic collector’s alike.
.

Love the new segment. I found an odd book recently. It was Civil War #7 euro Variant by Olivetti . Any info on this book would be appreciated.
I’m not 100% sure about that particular book, but most of the newer Euro variants were published by Panini, and many were convention variants. There are some really nice variant covers that are exclusive to those Paninis. A little hint, if you are looking on eBay, and can’t find it, switch the country you are searching ( ebay.uk, ebay.fr, ebay.it etc vs ebay.com) and then use the translate feature. Often you’ll find low print run foreign variants for cheap prices in the countries they were released in, whereas they are usually marked up or really hard to find in North America.
Great article. Interesting to read about obscure books.
Awesome great info and can’t wait for the next article.
