Hollywood Daze: Trill League

.

Deadline put out a report today that 50 Cent, best known for his work on the Blood on the Sand PS3 Video Game, has teamed up with Lionsgate Entertainment to develop the Graphic Novel Trill League for the Quibi video streaming platform. The series is officially being produced by 3 Arts Entertainment and Lionsgate Television in association with G-Unit Film & Television.

.
Before we go into Trill League I’d like to explore this video platform, Quibi. This was the first time I had heard of this video streaming service but Quibi is described as an up and coming “short form” mobile video platform that is being launched in April of 2020. Quibi has 11 investors including The Walt Disney Company, NBC Universal, Sony Pictures, and Warner Media. Most of the content on this platform will be short length videos. I have no idea how this new project is going to fit into that format.

Trill League is a graphic novel that was published through the crowd source funding website Kickstarter in 2018. The original fundraising page described the book as “a hilarious parody combining the world of superheroes, anime and hip-hop culture.”
The first book published was titled “Episode One” and can still be ordered through the Trill League Big Cartel website. It is $50 and comes with a special “art of” book that features a reprinting of Trill League issue #0.

Trill League #0 “The Switch Up” – was first published in 2015 and was only sold by creator Anthony Piper at his various comic convention appearances. This book is the first appearance of the title, concept and characters.

While there was talk in 2017 about Adult Swim picking up Trill League that never came to fruition – this new 50 Cent / Quibi streaming service optioning seems a little bit more reliable.
