Vertigo Comics Lovecraft Graphic Novel being developed for the big screen

.

Variety is reporting that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, credited for creating the HBO Game of Thrones TV series, have signed on to adapt a film based on the Vertigo Graphic Novel Lovecraft from 2009. This book is Keith Griffin’s graphic novel adaptation of an unused screenplay by Hans Rodionoff.

From a review by Publisher’s Weekly,  “Argentine artist Breccia and DC writer Giffen (Lobo) take a surreal, psychosexual look at the American horror master’s life story. The book focuses on the graphics, notably lurid, dialogue-free sequences depicting Cthulhu and his tentacled kin assaulting helpless humans… The story’s remainder concerns Lovecraft’s repetitive attempts, in childhood and adulthood, to ward off a series of repellent creatures

Lovecraft is a 144 page graphic novel that is long out of print. Copies of this book can still be found on online retailers like Amazon where used copies can be purchased for as low as $8. I’m not sure if the Game of Thrones fan base will follow this creative team to their next project but I do think the Lovecraft Graphic Novel, which has only been released in one printing by Vertigo Comics, will start to see a large wave of interest as more news come out about this project. A preview of this book was published in the Vertigo anthology, Vertigo X #1 from 2003. This book was published three months after the original graphic novel.
