Spotlight on Spawn #301 Clayton Crain Exclusive

.

Following our trend of reporting on Spawn store variants I thought we should spend some time talking about this one – On November 13th Clayton Crain released his own exclusive cover for Spawn #301. This book features the virgin cover art of his regular cover for this same issue.

The “Acrylic Version Virgin Variant” was initially offered for sale at $50 each and quickly sold out. Copies of this book signed and unsigned have been selling on ebay for $100 to $120. Crain recently added more copies to his online website at $50 for unsigned and $60 for signed copies – which is a real bargain when you look at what these books have been selling for on ebay over the past few weeks.

The recent released Spawn store variants and the prices they have been demanding on the secondary market is proof that Spawn is a powerhouse property that shouldn’t be slept on. Just a few weeks ago we saw the release of a Singapore Comic Con variant cover for Spawn #303 -facilitated and sold by Scotts Collectibles. The cover art was by Kael Ngu and the print run was only 250 copies. While this book was offered for sale at $40 USD at the show (and I passed on copies from Comic Sketch Art for $100 USD each!) the last sale of a copy of this book on ebay was $682 (on December 10) and the three sales before that were just under $1000!

What do you think? Are Spawn Comics part of the bubble market or are they the real deal? What about the film adaptation? Let me know what you think in the comments or on social media!

Thank you Sleepy Jawn for sending me the Clayton Crain links.
