Week In Review: December 11
.
Hello and welcome to the week in review on Comicbookspeculation.com – home of the original week in review – where we go over all of the hot books being released to comic book stores this week. Here are just some books that come out this week that I think are interesting.
.
This week is a very light week. But lets start with one of the more anticipated releases of the week, the 100th issue of The IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle series. While this book does have ratio variants I would avoid all of them. This issue has too many store variants and while some of them look nice I don’t see any long term potential with any of these covers including the higher end ratio variants.

For the last few days the speculating community has seemed obsessed with the Boom Studios title Red Mother #1. Maybe Boom’s speculative marketing and low print run second and third printings are working out for them. Red Mother #1 has an intermix variant cover as well as a one per store “Thank you variant”. Intermix means that instead of being distributed as a ratio this book is intermixed within the print run for the cover A. The last series Boom did a one per store thank you variant for (not counting the IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Mighty Morphin Power Ranger #1) was for Heartbeat #1. The Heartbeat #1 variant sold well in presale before it was released, up to $90, but the last sale on ebay was $15 and the sale before that was $30. With that in mind, while the Red Mother #1 Thank you variant is currently selling for $25 online, unless this book gets some kind of Hollywood attention over the next few days, I’m not sure anyone is really going to be caring about this book in two weeks.

Another book that comes out this week that I like is the one in fifty ratio variant cover for the third volume of Dejah Thoris. This ratio variant for Dejah Thoris #1 features the virgin cover art of the trade dress Adam Hughes variant cover. The ratio variant has been selling for $60 to $80 while the trade dress variant doesn’t have any noteworthy sales.

One last book I want to talk about is the new number one issue from Its Alive! Comics – Breathers. Breathers is a ten issue series by Justin Madson. This book was originally funded through Indigogo while also being solicited through Diamond. There are three covers including an indigogo exclusive cover that the campaign is showing only 21 copies being ordered – but who knows how many copies ended up getting printed. As of right now this book is not selling above its $8 price tag.
