Week In Review: December 4

Hello and welcome to the week in review on Comicbookspeculation.com – home of the original week in review – where we go over all of the hot books being released to comic book stores this week. Here are just some books that come out this week that I think are interesting.

This week sees the release of the first cross-over between two powerhouse franchises – the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This book is published by Boom studios (with IDW) and like with previous Boom Studios releases this number one issue has a one per store “Thank You” variant cover. The TMNT and the Power Rangers both have large rampant fan bases and I have the feeling this book could be very collectible for months to come. The release of both of these properties became speculative successes with the first issues of both books holding strong on the secondary market. This first issue also has a one in fifty Kevin Eastman sketch variant cover that has multiple sales ranging from $60 to $65. The one per store variant has had a few sales averaging $80 each.

Another variant cover that comes out this week that has the potential of strong holding power is the one in one-hundred variant cover for Conan Serpent War #1. This book’s cover is by David Finch and the cover features both Conan and Moon Knight. Historically high-ratio Moon Knight variants have performed very well on the secondary market and with the Disney plus Moon Knight series being in development I don’t see that changing anytime soon. So far this book has had two sales at $120 and $150.

Following last weeks trend of spotlighting Peach Momoko’s work – this week sees the release of a one in twenty five variant cover for Spider-Man Venom Double Trouble #2 featuring artwork by Momoko. This book has been selling in presale for $30 to $35. Like with most second issues from DC and Marvel the print run will be much smaller for this book than the first issue which could produce the perfect storm. I think this book is worth picking up If you can find copies.
