While news came out over the last few days that the Black Adam film starring the Rock would feature Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Dr Fate, Stargirl and the JSA there was another character announced a few weeks ago that I would like to talk about. Isis.

Isis was first introduced in the DC universe in 1976 – almost a year after first appearing in her own TV series ‘The Secrets of ISIS‘. ISIS was originally a television character that DC comics adapted – first appearing in the October 1976 Shazam! #25.

The first ISIS character we are introduced to is Andrea Thomas. Thomas becomes ISIS when while on a scientific expedition in Egypt she stumbles across an amulet and a scroll. When she wears the Amulet she is given the power of the goddess ISIS “Powers of the forces of nature, and of the animals; powers of the mystic regions of the mind.”

This character was underutilized until she was reintroduced in the pages of DC’s 52 series from 2006 – This time as Adrianna Tomaz. The reason I think this is an important character and the reason I think this is the character that we will end up seeing in the Black Adam film is because in the comic books Tomaz is married to Black Adam. While Tomaz first appears in 52 #3 she doesn’t become ISIS until 52 #12 – a book that has been trending up in recent weeks.

While both of these books are regularly found in dollar and bargin bins, I think they’re both great books to be looking for!
