Week in Review: November 27

.
Hello and welcome to the week in review on Comicbookspeculation.com – home of the original week in review – where we go over all of the hot books being released to comic book stores this week. This seems to be a very small week with an emphasis on variant covers. The problem with gobbling up high end or low print run variant covers on week of release is that most of the prices on the week of release do not hold. When it comes to these kind of books the best thing to do is buy and sell as fast as possible.

.

The first book I would like to talk about that already seems to be on many people’s radar is the Folklords #1 second printing. Boom Studios put out a release to retailers saying they would work on not making second and third print variants for the speculator community – but some how this book seemed to have slipped through the cracks. While Forklords #1 is already on its third printing – the second print variant cover has been selling for $20 to $30 on ebay.

Another book that has been seeing some attention online is the Peach Momoko one in twenty five variant cover for Fallen Angels #2. This book has been selling in presale for $40 to $50. This isn’t the first variant cover by Peach Momoko that I’ve highlighted in recent weeks. Could Peach be the next Joshua Middleton or even the next Artgerm?

Another book that seems to be trending up is the new horror book by Source Point Press, Touching Evil. Touching Evil is about a lawyer who is given the ability to kill anything that she touches. There was a convention exclusive variant for this title released a few months ago – the last sale of that book was a CBCS 9.8 signature series copy that sold for over $100.

The last book I want to talk about is the new Image title, Killadelphia #1. This book features artwork by Jason Shawn Alexander and is written by Rodney Barnes. Rodney Barnes was a writer on American Gods, Marvel’s Runaways and Wutang: An American Saga – this is his first creator owned comic book. While the Local Comic Shop Day variant was released last weekend and should be considered the first appearance of this title – the first issue coming out this week has a one in twenty five variant cover by Francesco Mattina that has been selling for $40 to $50 online. I think all of the covers for this book are worth picking up.

  • Several years ago I sent PeachMomoko my sketch book in which I had her draw some stuff, I am in Phoenix and was headed to Rose City Comicon in Portland several weeks later and I wanted to pick it up there. When some workers at my LCS heard, they looked her up and automatically followed her on social media saying if she ever did covers she would be a hit. Glad it is playing out, as I have several of her work in my sketchbook
