Local Comic Shop Day is an event put on by Comicspro – where Comicspro Diamond members host a store event where they sell limited edition variant covers. Most Comic publisher participate and there are usually one or two DC or Marvel comic books that perform well on the secondary market. If a store is part of the Comispro program they can order as many copies as they want of available books – but since there are limited print runs on most of the items almost all of them are allocated. The books are offered for sale by participating stores on Local Comic Shop Day – this year that day falls on November 23, 2019.

In previous years there was a limited to 500 All New Wolverine #1 sketch variant and a limited to 500 Green Lantern #1 Foil variant cover – while these books have cooled off a little bit in previous months, both of these books continue to sell well on the secondary market.

This year Marvel and DC are both releasing books I think are worth looking into. DC is releasing a special edition variant cover for Legion of Super-Heroes #1 – the new Brian Michael Bendis written title. Unlike the regular covers, this book features many different heroes on the cover including Adam Strange, Booster Gold, Batman Beyond and more. This book is limited to 500 copies.

Marvel is releasing two variant covers. The first is for New Mutants #1. This is a variant cover for the series that was released on November 6. This book is limited to 1000 copies.

Marvel is also releasing two Absolute Carnage #5 variants including a limited to 500 virgin variant cover. I think when it comes to Marvel the virgin cover is the book to be looking for and this could be the main book you should be seeking out for LCSD considering Absolute Carnage #5 is released the same week of LCSD so its very possible there is something important going on in this books story line.

One last book that comes out through Local Comic Shop Day that I think is worth seeking out is the new Image series Killadelphia #1. The LCSD edition predates the regular edition of this comic book so this would be the first appearance of the characters and title. This book is a new ongoing series written by Rodney Barnes and featuring artwork by Jason Shawn Alexander.
