Cherry Poptart is an erotic comic book character created by Larry Welz in the early 70s. She had her own on-going title which was a very controversial book and ebay is very strict at removing listings featuring these books.

Due to a lawsuit with Kellogs over the Poptart name, the name of the comic was changed to just Cherry for issue #3. Cherry ran for 22 issues and the first printing Cherry Poptart #1 and the first appearance of the character, Funnybook #1 from 1971 can still command a premium price. Cherry ran for 22 issues from 1982 to 2000. Many of these issues command in high grade high value both online and in the wild.

Earlier this month Larry Welz announced that he was going back to publishing a new issue of Cherry and just this week he announced that he was in possession of Cherry Comix #23, the first appearance of the character in 19 years. Larry describes the book on facebook, “this is a real 32-page comic book. It has the first chapter of the epic graphic novel, Cherrypocalypse, which continues the story begun in #22, the Alien Abduction Roswell/X Files issue. Also features a story by Mark Bode, ‘Attack of the 50-Ft. Cherry’, & pinups from Huy Truong, George Webber, Danielle Gransaull, David Harrigan & Leon Braojos. ”

This new book has a print run of 5000 including a special edition Blank variant cover. This book can be purchased here. There was also a limited edition 8 page ashcan variant that is also available on the Cherry Comix website.
