Bloodshot Volume 4 #2 – The First Full appearance of Eidolon

This week’s Bloodshot #2 (Volume 4) released by Valiant Comics has sold out at the distribution level and the publisher has already solicited a second printing of the issue. Like most Valiant number one issues – Bloodshot #1 had a 250 ratio variant cover – this special edition variant was dubbed the “Carbon Fiber Variant” and as you might expect – the cover is allegedly made out of some kind of Carbon Fiber.

I mention this variant because numerous stores produced there own store variant covers just to get copies of this variant which let to the first issue having a very high print run. The second issue wouldn’t have had nearly of high of a print run because it didn’t have any store variant covers to prop up the numbers.

Bloodshot #2 also features what Valiant Comics is describing as “the first full appearance of Bloodshot’s newest nemesis“. That nemesis being the new Valiant Comics Universe character Eidolon. Bloodshot #2 has four covers. Eidolon did appear in the first issue of the volume 4 Bloodshot series, but she didn’t speak and isn’t named. She appears in a total of three panels including the one below which is a flash-back scene.

In the sold out Bloodshot issue #2 we find out more information about the Eidolon character, although most of it is still a mystery. The reason I think this character is important and has the potential to have legs in the future is that Valiant released a special ashcan edition of Bloodshot #2 at New York Comic Con. Why wouldn’t they have done a variant for the first issue – which is typically standard? Its very odd that they would release a special retailer preview variant for this issue and it leads me to believe Valiant have long term plans for this character.
