Spotlight on Raising Dion and Ling
Space
This weekend Netflix released the first season of Raising Dion. Raising Dion is based on the Dennis Liu comic book of the same name. Raising Dion is about a single mother having to hide her son’s superpowers from the world. Dennis Liu produced a short film for Raising Dion and used it to secure financing for the project. This is how he was able to get Michael B. Jordan and Netflix to sign onto the series. So far reviews are not all that positive but they’re not overwhelmingly great. Most critics are calling it “just ok” tv.

So far Raising Dion has a 64% rating on Rotten Tomato – Based on that I would assume Netflix would green light a second second. Only the first issue of Raising Dion was ever published – it was published as a print to order book through the Indyplanet website. Copies of this book have been selling for the $5 each plus shipping they are offered for on the indyplanet website. A CGC 9.8 copy recently sold for $67 USD

Since the success of Raising Dion, Dennis Liu has produced another comic and another short film based on that comic. That book is Ling. Ling #1 was launched at the end of September (2019). Ling is centered around a Chinese American teen and the book has supernatural elements. The short film has been called a companion piece for Raising Dion. One should assume that if Netflix continues making Raising Dion episodes – Ling will eventually show up.

Like Raising Dion #1, Ling’s first appearance, Ling #1 is also a print-to-order book that can be found on Indyplanet for $5.50 each and $5 shipping.
