Hollywood Daze: Curse Words

Space
Over the last two days various websites have been reporting that the 2017 Image comic series Curse Words had been optioned for television. Charles Soule, the writer of Curse Words, appeared on Saturday (September 28) episode of Ryan Stegman’s podcast “Steg-Man and His Amazing Friends“, where he discussed how Curse Words series had been optioned. This has resulted from the book going from stone cold to very hot.

What I find interesting about this recent news is how Soule tweeted about Curse Words being optioned for television over a month ago and no one seemed to notice. This is a great testament of why you should be following comic book creators on social media. While you do that make sure to follow @CBS_daily on both instagram and twitter.

The First published appearance of Curse Words was the “Limited Edition Preview Ashcan”. Every diamond account holder that orders image comics received one copy of this book, it was sent to retailers so they could get a feel for the book while they could still order copies.

When the first issue of Curse Words was released, like with the ashcan, every retailer received a one per store gold foil variant cover featuring the standard artwork. I think the books that are going to see the most action are the two ratio variant covers for Curse Words #1. While this book did have lower print second, third printing variants – how many retailers ordered 25 (Koala Cover) or 50 copies (Glitter Variant) of the first issue?

There were also very limited print variants included in the Image Comics 25th Anniversary Blind Boxes. There were six different variations of this cover.

So why should you care that Curse Words has been optioned?

Curse Words ends with issue 25 released this year in November. This title has been the definition of cold as ice since its release. Now is the time you’ll be able to find underpriced copies. One other thing to keep in mind – Charles Soule’s Oni Press series Letter 44 was also optioned for television back in 2014 by SyFy and nothing ever came of that.

I opted not to talk about store variants including the Emerald City Comic Con variant.
