Week in Review: September 25

Space
Hello and welcome to the week in review – where we go over all of the hot books being released to comic book stores this week. These books are being released on September 25, 2019.

This week is shaping up to be a Wednesday Warriors wet dream. The first book I want to talk about is the 1 in 25 variant cover for Ghost-Spider #2. Second issues of Marvel titles typically have much lower print runs than first issues – there are also no store variants propping the print run up. The 1:25 variant cover for Ghost Spider #2 featuring artwork by Peach Momoko. This book is currently selling for $40 plus.

Another Marvel variant that is selling well online is the Power of X #5 connecting variant cover. It looks like retailers have caught on to how desirable these connecting covers are as this one is currently selling for just above its cover price.

One last variant I want to spotlight this week is the retailer thank you – one per store – variant for Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal Age of Resistance #1. This series is an official tie in comic series with the Netflix show of the same name. This is a book to be keeping an eye out for.

This week Diamond sent out a notice to retailers advising them to destroy any received copies of the Bloodshot #1 blank variant. The recall notice indicated that the book was being recalled due to the wrong paper being used on the exterior cover making it hard for artists to draw on them – the purpose of the blank variant. As with most recalled books there will be a window of opportunity with these books – just keep in mind that Valiant fans are rampant and based on that these books will be in demand.

One book that comes out this week that I’m excited to pick up is the new Black Label DC title, Harleen #1. This is a three part mini-series printed in the newly established Black Label larger format. This series features art and writing by Stejepan Sejic. This book has a $7.99 cover price and while it isn’t selling above that price, it does feature a new origin story for Harley Quinn and I’m excited to see where that goes.
