Week in Review: March 2 2016

Before I start this week in review – do not buy copies of the new Boom series Mighty Morphing Power Rangers #1 for speculation purposes. Stores were caught off guard with the success of issue #0 – and all covers, including the hard to find variants, have fallen in price, which was to be expected. All these books will eventually cool off with the big speculative winner being the true first appearance in comic form. Discussed here.

Its been a very slow last few weeks but here are two titles to be looking for.

Last week saw the release of the first Mad Magazine Blank Sketch Variant with Mad Magazine issue 538. Mad Magazine is published (and run) through DC comics – so its no surprise they would eventually pick up on the sketch variant gimmick. While there are a lot of sold copies on ebay at cover price – there are a hand full of sold copies above or around the $10 price point – with all cover price buy it nows auctions drying up. This book appears to be on the move and is sure to be on many want lists in a few weeks when the summer of comic con starts.

Another book that has steadily been selling for $10 is Secret Warriors #2. Published in 2009 – this book features the first appearance of Hive – recently revealed on Agents of Shield – This book is straight out of the dollar bin and is most likely in your local comic book stores back issue bin. This is a book to be looking for with great quick flip potential.

Another title that has jumped the shark because of hollywood speculation is the original Old Man Logan series. With the success of the Deadpool film, Fox recently announced the new Wolverine film, Wolverine 3, will be a R Rated adaptation of the much loved and critically acclaimed Old Man Logan series. Pushing the first print of the first book of the series, Wolverine #66, in to the $35 to $50 range. Comics Invest did a great article on all the print runs and which ones to look for – but in short, in the current comic climate, Wolverine #66 is a great book to be buying and holding on to.
