Word?! Another New Character is the TMNT Universe

In late July it was announced that Sophie Campbell – one of the creators of the Jennika female Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle – would be taking over the writing and art duties for the Turtles title with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #101.

While the value of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #95 – the first appearance of Jennika transforming into a Turtle has stalled out in the last few months, the rampant speculation on the title proves that the Turtles franchise is not to be slept on. Where there are limited windows for those books, new characters in this universe can rock the speculation community.

Earlier this week Sophie Campbell announced that she is bringing a character from the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated cartoon into the IDW TMNT universe – Mona Lisa.

Some people might think this would lead the way for the introduction of Venus De Milo, the first female TMNT team member that only appeared in the Live Action series, “Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation” from 1997. Sophie Campbell clarified on twitter that she was told all characters from the Next Mutation universe are off-limits. So we will not be seeing this character in the pages of an IDW comic anytime soon.

Since the TMNT fanbase is all about nostalgia – I think the first appearance of the introduction of Mona Lisa into the IDW universe is going to be a great book to be ordering. There are two regulars covers including a Kevin Eastman cover B (art has not been released). There is also a 1 in 10 variant cover which features Mona Lisa.
