IDW Road Rage Throttle and HBO Max

.

News broke earlier today that the HBO max streaming service was in early development of a film based on the Stephen King Joe Hill short story Throttle. Co-Executive Producer of the Netflix series Raising Dion, Leigh Dana Jackson, will be writing the screenplay while David S. Goyer and Keith Levine have signed on to produce the feature. Throttle is about a father and son led motorcycle gang who get terrorized by a big rig truck. The short story was first published in 2009.

.

In collaboration with Stephen King and Joe Hill as writers, IDW adapted the Throttle short story into a four part comic book mini series – expanding on the characters, concepts and themes from the original book. This comic book series was titled “Road Rage”. Issues 1 and 2 featured an adaptation of the novel while issue 3 and 4 featured a new story – Road Rage: Duel. There were multiple covers for the first issue of Road Rage #1 including several store variant covers and a Diamond Comics Pro foil logo variant cover. In 2013 IDW auctioned off numerous graded copies of Road Rage #1 including three CGC 9.9 copies on their IDWLimited Ebay page.

This entire series includes great books to be looking for as they feature many first appearances that could show up in the film.

  • Seems like HBO Max is locking up a few adaptations to compete with Netflix. Not sure who the audience will be for this (Sons of Anarchy fans?). The early buzz was for Marjorie Lui’s ‘Monstress’, which i think would be a clear winner for ‘GoT’ fans needing that fantasy fix.
