Week in Review: March 4, 2020

Hello and welcome to the week in review on Comicbookspeculation.com – home of the original week in review – where we go over all of the hot books being released to comic book stores this week. Here are just some books that come out this week that I think are interesting.

This week sees the release of Batman #90 the follow up to Batman #89 and this book features the first appearance of an all-new character – The Designer. The Designer has been described by the books author James Tynion IV as a mysterious master criminal. First prints of this book have long sold out and copies have been selling for $25 to $30. This book has two covers including a variant cover by Francesco Mattina.

This seems to be the week of first appearances. Another book that comes out this week is Strange Academy #1 – we spoke about this book last month as having great long term hold potential. This book features multiple first appearances of new characters.

Another Marvel book featuring a hyped up first appearance is Magnificent Ms. Marvel #13. This book introduces Fadi Fadalah – also known as the Amulet – a new super-hero from Dearborn Michigan that will team up with Kamala Khan. We first wrote about this book in late December when Marvel first announced this new character. This book has been preselling for double to triple its cover price selling for $8 to $10.

One last book I would like to talk about is Strange Adventures #1 from DC Comics. Back in October it was reported that HBO was developing a Strange Adventures TV series based around Adam Strange. Adam Strange is a very under utilized character within the DC Universe and since this new series is written by Tom King – I believe this book has the potential to be a HBO tie-in which is why I suggest you plan on picking up at least one copy.

It helped to add Batman to monthly pull at the end of Tom King’s run. My LCBS is good for getting me 2 copies of everything before they run out at distro level. Strange Academy has the potential to be my favorite title of 2020! – Reminds me of the classic Grant Morrison New X-Men which introduced a swarm of NEW mutants. (love Kid Omega!). I pre-purchased a copy of every Strange Academy cover including the Peach Virgin cover.
