Yesterday Variety ran an exclusive news story about a comic book being optioned.

Variety reported the unconfirmed rumor that director Taika Waititi and actor Jude Law had signed on to adapt the Oni Press comic book series The Auteur for Showtime television. While Variety is posting this as an unconfirmed rumor, after the news broke, The Auteur co-creator and writer, Rick Spears wrote on facebook “Ha! No Comment” which leads me to think this is really happening. Its also worth mentioning that when it was released, The Auteur, was my “Pick this Week”.

The Auteur was a mini-series published by Oni Press in 2014 about a Hollywood Producer and how he responds to his latest box office bomb. This is a Hollywood parody comedy and would make for great television! The first issue was published in March of 2014 and has two covers including a Cover B by Eric Powell. There was a New York Comic Con “Premature Release Edition” Preview that was released in October of 2013 and would be considered the first appearance of this series and characters.
