Prince of Cats is a graphic novel that is written and illustrated by Ronald Wimberly. In 2016 NPR published a profile of the novel – “nonstop, jittery energy seems to rattle every panel of Prince of Cats, Ronald Wimberly’s Shakespearean street tale. Few artists can strike the kind of sparks that electrify these pages, and yet Wimberly’s powerful draftsmanship is only one aspect of a head-to-toe remarkable book. Focusing on Tybalt, the “Prince of Cats” in Romeo and Juliet, Wimberly conjures a distinctive vision of the early ’80s in the inner city. “

Prince of Cats was first published in 2012 by DC comics under their Vertigo Comics Imprint. Graphic novel original stories typically don’t do very well in sales and this particular one had very little marketing by DC resulting in only 1193 copies being order by comic book stores in North America on the week of release. (According to Comichron).

Image comics later republished the Prince of Cats GN in 2016. When they did this they produced a limited to 300 signed and numbered special edition variant. When it comes to this printing I would shy away from the Image second printing unless it’s the variant cover.

I’m not sure if this property will see further development but right now copies of this graphic novel are flying off eBay so if you can find them in the wild there is definitely money to be made.
