Into the Spider-Verse 2 was officially this week to be released on April 8, 2022, which is still a good year and a half away. If you will recall, the first Into the Spider-Verse dropped some Easter eggs / cameo’s for this second movie.

The biggest was undoubtedly the post-credit scene with Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099. His first preview appearance is in Amazing Spider-Man #365 (which CGC designates on the label as his 1st appearance and yet solidifies their random method of determination of 1st appearances) which has a few pages from Spider-Man 2099 #1, his first full appearance.

The second is one that was an Easter egg in the movie and has again surfaced in multiple instances on social media.

At the beginning of the first movie, Miles Morales is seen sketching in his bedroom. A brief look at the art showed what appeared to be Leopardon, more on that in a minute.

The first new image being a new Spider-Man logo that don’s the colors of the cult favorite Japanese Spider-Man TV show. Many fans are linking the two.

Another nugget is that Phil Lord, one half of the production company for Into the Spider Verse, re-tweeted a fan art piece of Miles Morales with Leopardon behind him.

Who is Leopardon you ask? Leopardon is the mecha-suit that the Japanese version of Spider-Man activated in the 70’s TV show via a bracelet. This character did end up appearing in Marvel Comics in Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #12 (2015) which is a Spider-Verse story arc. The character jumps from an alternate reality to be part of the Spider-Army which battles the Spider villain Mourlin (1st Amazing Spider-Man Vol.2 #30).

Marvel knows where the money lies with fans and that’s in the merchandising. They could have some cool product on their hands if they use this character. For all of the reasons stated above, I think it would be a wise decision to start buying up the first appearance of Leopardon. If this is the route Marvel chooses to go this could be a back-issue gold-mine.
