Captain Marvel #12 – Vox is back

This last week Marvel released a digital copy of Captain Marvel #12 to retailers so they could increase their orders before the issues final order cut off date (the last day retailers can order a book and guarantee its arrival on its release).

So I am about to spoil a few scenes from the book and explain who the “Evil Captain Marvel” character is. When looking at the previews catalog and solicitations for Captain Marvel #12,  I expected the “Evil Captain Marvel” character to be Star but it seems like its actually Carol Danvers.

In this issue, as the cover art suggests – Captain Marvel intends to destroy the Avengers. First up Carol fights Thor and ends up killing him and cutting his head off as some kind of trophy. Captain Marvel then delivers the trophy to a character she refers to as “Vox Supreme”. This Vox Supreme character looks suspiciously similar to a previous Vox character that was introduced into the Marvel Universe by Donny Cates.

The Vox are a super-human race described as “the next stage of the inhuman evolution”. They first appeared in The Death of the Inhumans #1 in the form of a character simply referred to as Vox. I’m unsure if this is the same character appearing in Captain Marvel #12 or if its another character from that super-human race. Captain Marvel #12 seems to be the first time we see the name “Vox Supreme” show up in the pages of a Marvel Comic book. Either way, I think Death of the Inhumans #1 is a great book to start looking for being the release of Captain Marvel #12. Death of the Inhumans #1 has a 1 in 10 ratio design variant that still seems to preform well on the secondary market – selling for up $30 to #40.

  • In the past, there have been price increases for some super heroes who turn into villains. Examples include Superboy prime, Jason Todd, Bucky Barnes, Angel, Jean Grey and Spider-man. Most new characters aren’t as popular as Venom.

  • I think Vox’s look was ripped off. Check out Ahura Boltagon on the covers of Universe X #2 and Universe X Iron Men 1 shot from 1999/2000
