Hot off the release of the first issue two weeks ago, Dead End Kids #2 comes out this week and is already heating up on the secondary market. While one copy of this book has sold as a buy it now (for $29.99) – there are currently several active auctions with bids ranging from $10 to $20. This week – this is the book to be looking for.

Jonathan Hickman has been on a roll these past few weeks with his take over of Marvel’s X-Men. This week sees the release of Powers of X #3 – this book has already sold out at the retailer distribution level and has sold out on many online comic retail stores. This book is supposed to feature a new character and while it has eight covers – one of them is the a “New Character Variant” by Dustin Weaver. While there are a few sales of this book above its $4.99 cover price, I’m not sure how long this book will keep its momentum going.

UPDATE: Powers of X #3 has a secret variant cover. Diamond solicited this cover as the regular cover but some stores are saying they received less copies of the secret cover meaning it was not a 50/50 ratio variant. The secret cover features the classic Nightcrawler while the regular cover features a future Nightcrawler with a red face. The Red face is also on the 1:100 virgin cover which is how you know it is the regular cover and not the secret variant.

Another title that has had a few sales above its cover price is the Captain Marvel #8 second print. Captain Marvel #8 features the first appearance of the new “Star” character and the second printing has all new cover art featuring Star. While this book does have a few store variant covers including virgin cover art of the regular second Print cover and virgin art variant of the first print “carnagized” variant – I think this book could have legs down the road depending on how Marvel utilizes this character. This is the first cover appearance of Star.

Planet Caravan #1 is a new title from Scout Comics that has a few sales above its cover price. Headless #1 is another Scout Comics title that comes out this week that has a few sales above its cover price. The Headless title first appeared as 2010 Diamond Comics Pro ashcan and can be purchased on the Scout Comics website for $8. Both of these books have sold out at the distribution level.

UPDATE: Another book that has started to see some interest now that spoilers of the story-line have started to creep onto the internet is Batman #77. Batman #77 has two covers including a Clayton Crain cover B. Batman #77 features the return of Bane and the death of a beloved Batman universe character (who already has his own TV Show). This is a book you want to be picking up! This book has also renewed interest in the classic 1988 Death in the Family story-line – Quite a lot of copies of Batman #428 (Death of Robin) and #427, #429 and #430 have been moving online.

I started ordering 1st appearances on 2nd print covers just in case one of those ends up becoming like the Ms. Marvel which was on that 2nd print of Captain Marvel that I missed out on. Even if it doesn’t get all the hype you never know.
I agree with Sleepy Jawn – not Crain’s best work.
